The Brave Girl (Algeria)

The Brave Girl is a story from Algeria. Aischa is the oldest of four siblings. Her mother died a long time ago. Her father was a merchant who often went to town. Aicha and her younger siblings are often left by her father to trade.

One day, Aicha's father dug a hole to make a new well. However, the digging of the well stopped because his father was going to town.

"Take good care of your sister. Do not let them play around the hole that my father dug because the hole was very deep. I have to go to the city to trade, because our food supply is running low. " Order the father before leaving for the city.

After his father left for the city, Aicha then went to the kitchen to cook. But charcoal for cooking in the kitchen runs out. So Aicha had to borrow charcoal from neighbors.

"Please lend me charcoal, if I go home my father will replace" pleaded Aicha to his neighbor.

Too bad the supply of neighboring charcoal is also limited. So it cannot lend the charcoal to Aicha. Finally, one of the people who could be asked for help was an evil wizard who lived just down the road. At first Aicha was afraid, but for the sake of her younger siblings, Aicha tried to be brave enough to borrow charcoal from the evil witch.

Finally, the magician happily lent Aicha charcoal. But the magician said that he would take her younger siblings to make secret potion ingredients. Hearing that Aicha ran as fast as she could to run away. The witch finally ran after her. Until finally Aicha remembered the hole made by her father.

When he reached the hole, Aicha covered it with twigs and leaves. Aicha was already hiding when the witch came and entered the hole. Without wasting time, Aicha immediately burned the leaves and twigs that covered the hole. The witch finally disappeared from the village and was never seen again.

Message from the story: be a brave human, never fear evil or evil.
