Middle Eastern Folklore

A collection of folklore from Middle East with morals for kids and adult. Feel free to share them.

The Middle East is a transcontinental region which generally includes Western Asia (except for Transcaucasia), all of Egypt (mostly in North Africa), and Turkey (partly in Europe). The term has come into wider usage as a replacement of the term Near East (as opposed to the Far East) beginning in the early 20th century. The broader concept of the "Greater Middle East" (or Middle East and North Africa) also adds the Maghreb, Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and sometimes even Transcaucasia and Central Asia into the region. The term "Middle East" has led to some confusion over its changing definitions.

The story of Alibaba is a fairy tale from the country of Iran. Alibaba is a kind-hearted and diligent young man. Everyday, he works to find firewood in the forest to sell in the market. He has an older brother named Kasim. In contrast to his younger brother, Kasim had a bad temper and was lazy. One day, while searching for wood in the forest, Alibaba got lost near a high cliff.

Fish for the king is a fairy tale boy who came from the country of Iraq. It is said that according to the story, long ago there was an Iraqi king who liked to eat fish. Every day the palace chef always serves fish-based food. Palace chefs always order the best quality fish from fishermen. It so happened that the palace of the King of Iraq was on the banks of the Tigris river.

Abu Nawas is a man of many minds. One day, he became concerned to see residents of his village who like to believe things that are not possible to become rich, not believe in God. He began to think about making them aware. Abu Nawas had an idea, he bought equipment for sale and some very cheap sandals for sale. He began to bring merchandise to the market.

Kosim's Shoes (Middle East)
In an area there lived a man named Kosim. Kosim is very stingy. Not that he is a poor person. His shoes are very ugly, and he doesn't want to buy shoes for himself. A friend looked strangely at Kosim and then said "Kosim, replace your shoes with new ones, if you object, let me just buy you."

The Magic Fish (Middle East)
One day, a court maid in a kingdom in the Middle East found a very beautiful small fish bowl. Because the fish was very beautiful, the palace maid did not cook the fish. Especially when the king's consort knew about the fish, the fish was then put into the palace aquarium.
