Dutch Folklore

A collection of folklore from Netherlands with morals for kids and adult. Feel free to share them.

The Netherlands, informally Holland, is a country primarily located in Western Europe and partly in the Caribbean, forming the largest constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Netherlands literally means "lower countries" in reference to its low elevation and flat topography, with only about 50% of its land exceeding 1 metre (3 ft 3 in) above sea level, and nearly 17% falling below sea level.

In ancient times, there was a kind-hearted firewood seeker. He is named Van Eyck. Every day, he always goes to the forest to pick up branches and sell them to the market. Van Eyck never cut down trees. This is because the forest fairies live in trees and Van Eyck does not want the forest fairies to lose their homes. Until one day, a forest fairy who lived in an old oak tree came to him.

The Honesty of Willem and Irene
Willem and Irene are the children of a fisherman who lives in the village of Volendam in the Netherlands. The two of them are good friends. Willem's father is named Mr. Hendrik, while Irene's father is named Mr. Jansen. They are both 9 years old. They always wait for their fathers to come home from fishing.
