The Legend of Klompen (Netherlands)

In ancient times, there was a kind-hearted firewood seeker. He is named Van Eyck. Every day, he always goes to the forest to pick up branches and sell them to the market.

Van Eyck never cut down trees. This is because the forest fairies live in trees and Van Eyck does not want the forest fairies to lose their homes. Until one day, a forest fairy who lived in an old oak tree came to him.

"Van Eyck, this oak tree is very old, you can cut it down. You'd better cut down than fall in the wind. Take a nice piece of wood, then dry in the sun to dry, and keep it in your house. The rest is selling wood as firewood. " Said the forest fairy.

Van Eyck finally obeyed what the forest fairy said. So that a miracle happened. The wood that Van Eyck kept turning into shoes. Of course with the help of the forest fairy. The forest fairy conjured up the wood that Van Eyck kept and turned it into many shoes.

Van Eyck finally sold the shoes to the market. Many people like these shoes.

"I want to order wooden shoes," pleaded one of the ladies who wanted to wear wooden shoes.

"What is the name of this wooden shoe Van Eyck ?," asked a beautiful woman to him.

"Klompen," answered Van Eyck spontaneously.

"I want to order these wooden shoes Van Eyck," the beautiful woman also ordered wooden shoes.

From then on, Van Eyck became a group maker. More and more people like and use groups. Even today, the group is characteristic of the Netherlands
