The Honesty of Willem and Irene (Netherlands)

 

Willem and Irene are the children of a fisherman who lives in the village of Volendam in the Netherlands. The two of them are good friends. Willem's father is named Mr. Hendrik, while Irene's father is named Mr. Jansen. They are both 9 years old. They always wait for their fathers to come home from fishing.

 Willem and Irene sat by the sea as usual. They are waiting for their respective fathers. One by one the fishermen have come with their catch of fish.

 After waiting for a long time, Willem asked one of the fishermen, "Did you see our father?"

 "I saw him earlier, but it seems your father is going to the north to catch some more fish," said one of them.

 Hearing their answer, Irene looked disappointed and sad. He is worried about his father and Willem's father, even though the sky is getting darker.

 "Looks like it will start to rain, Willem, look at the sky getting darker," Irene.

 "Calm down Irene, we just pray. May God grant our request, so that the sky will clear again, "said Willem.

 Willem and Irene pray to God that the weather will be clear again and there will be no heavy rain. God granted their wish. Not long after, Mr Hendrik's ship and Mr Jansen's ship docked at the dock. They both look excited.

 The two men looked happy with the huge tuna fish. They finally agreed to take him to the fish auction. Finally, the fish was sold at the highest bid by a young man who came to the auction.

 The young man asked that the fish be cleaned, both outside and inside the fish's stomach. Willem and Irene are finally assigned to clean the fish.

 When Irene cleaned the belly of the fish, she was very surprised. The girl found a very beautiful jewel ring.

“Willem, this ring is so beautiful! who owns this ring? " Irene asked Willem.

 “This ring has been bought by someone. This means that this ring belongs to a young man who bought this fish. That means we have to give this ring to the young man, "Willem replied.

 They finally gave the ring to the fish buyer. The young man smiled and was amazed at the honesty of Willem and Irene.

 "You are very honest," replied the buyer with a smile. A young man took off his robe so that the people around him were amazed. It turned out that the young man was a prince who was disguising himself as an ordinary person.

 "Willem, I will make you my personal employee. Whereas you, Irene, I made you my adopted sister. The queen will be pleased with your arrival, "said the prince.

 They eventually live happily and become members of the royal family.
