The Little Match Girl (Denmark)

The Little Match Girl (Denmark)
One cold Christmas Eve. There's a little girl selling a match. It runs on its worn-out sandals. She shivered with cold while peddling her wares to people passing by there. The night was cold, snow covered the trees and the roof of the house. Each house has been decorated with beautiful evergreen trees, with twinkling decorations surrounding the tree.

The little girl was endlessly peddling her wares, "buy my lighter, madam, sir, buy this match".

Very sad, no one wants to buy a match. Everyone is just busy thinking about their individual needs. The girl finally fell silent. She could not imagine how angry her father would be if there were no matches to sell.

Because pensive, suddenly passed a horse-drawn carriage by walking so fast. The little girl was crushed and finally fell down. The sandals are thrown somewhere. The match flew to the road. She tried to pick up the remains of matches that fell into the street. With feet that do not use sandals, she walked back while peddling the match.

Suddenly, the girl paused. She saw a house. Inside the house there is a Christmas tree that stands very beautiful. The family in the house laughed while preparing a lot of food and gifts. That girl is sad. She remembered her grandmother and her mother who always prepared delicious food when Christmas Eve arrived. But unfortunately, the grandmother and her mother have passed away. And now she only lives with a cruel father. The little girl began to cry.

Gradually the cold air increasingly pierced her body. The little girl walked slowly. Her stomach was very hungry, she finally sat quietly while holding the cold of the night. Her thin body was unable to continue the journey.

She then murmured, "Ah, if I light this match, it might warm my body". Finally she lit a match. In the dim light, she saw the furnace, but unfortunately the fire in her hand went out. Then, she lit a second match. There is delicious food and drinks in front of it. Her small hand reached for the food, but the match she was holding out went out again. She lit a third match, this time she saw a beautiful Christmas tree. The candles of the Christmas tree rose into the sky and became stars, then dimmed again. When the little girl looked up at the sky, she found the shadow of her dead grandmother. She jumped happily, wanting to hug her grandmother.

"Grandma, don't leave me. I miss you so much. Take me to meet mother, Grandma. I really miss you"sobbed the little girl while being hugged by the shadow of her grandmother. But the fire in the match was extinguished. Finally she lit a match with several matchsticks at once, so that the light was bright.

Suddenly, the shadow of the grandmother smiled and said "we are leaving my granddaughter, your mother has been waiting for you in heaven". The little girl laughed happily.

Morning came. Cold still hit. Christmas covered with snow.

A little girl is on the side of the road. Her face smiled. She was found by a pedestrian. "Hey look, it's a pity this little girl," they said. Her body and blonde hair are partially covered in snow. The girl is lifeless.

People who have refused to buy matches are sorry. Even a mother who had refused the merchandise of the little girl became sobbing. "Suppose I bought all the matches, of course she would not die of cold," answered the mother with a sense of sadness and regret.

Residents finally take care of the poor girl's funeral by holding a ceremony at the church. Her death is a lesson for everyone to care for others. Especially for people who can not afford.

Message from the story: we must love and help each other.
