The Origin of Lake Narran (Australia)

In a valley in Australia, Byamee and her family lived.A river, named Narran river flows in the valley.

The Narran River is famous for being a den of ferocious crocodiles.

The ferocious crocodiles build holes around the Narran river as their nest.

When summer comes, Byamee and her family will look for food.

Some food will be stored for supply in winter.

They are used to sharing tasks.

Byamee used to look for honey, while his wife and children were tasked with finding sweet potatoes in the forest.

In searching for sweet potatoes in the forest, Byamee's wife used to bring wood.

The wood is used to dig up soil and take sweet potatoes.

One day, after searching for sweet potatoes, the basket where Byamee's wife's sweet potato was full.

She and his son walked home across the Narran river.

Narran river water looks very clear.

They both finally decided to take a bath in the Narran river.

While the two of them were in the shower, both of them realized, a ferocious crocodile watched them both.

The ferocious crocodile quickly dragged both of them into the crocodile nest hole.

While Byamee, who was looking for honey, felt that something had happened to her child and wife.

He then decided to go to the forest to find his wife & children.

As he passed the Narran river, Byamee saw a basket of his wife's sweet potatoes lying on the river's edge.

He called his wife and children, however, there was no answer.

Worried his wife and children were devoured by the Narran river crocodile, Byamee immediately acted.

Using his magic, Byamee then dug the ground by the river.

Byamee made a very large hole.

Byamee then drains the river water into his artificial hole.

As a result the Narran river dried up.

Byamee then entered the dry Narran river to look for his children & wife.

Finally he managed to find them in a crocodile nest hole.

Soon Byamee saved his child and wife.

Next Byamee drains water back from her artificial hole into the Narran river.

The big hole made by Byamee has now dried.

But over time, the big hole was gradually filled with rainwater to become a lake.

Today, Australians call the lake by the name of Narran Lake or Narran Wetlands.

Message from the story: we must always be vigilant because danger often comes unexpectedly.
